alright, let's set up google compute platform
the opposite of @bea lol
@KitRedgrave ooh lmk how it goes if you're actually doing this
@bea the price looked right :)
@KitRedgrave lol did they offer you a bunch of free shit also?
@bea nah, i completely discount any and all free shit because it's limited and i buy for the long-term.
pricing for their compute nodes is about the same as digitalocean but you get a lot more stuff you can do
@bea @KitRedgrave my instance's been running on DO since the start and haven't had any problems, so
it's $20/mo + $4/mo backups though and I don't know what google's pricing is at all because I haven't looked
@KitRedgrave @KS TCO?!
what are you some kinda narc?!
@KitRedgrave @KS you take that fuckin flag and skull outta your display name
my WORD
@KitRedgrave @bea don't mind me over here just giggling at the two of you
@KitRedgrave @KS looooooooooool real
movin out of the city for me rather than bein' a pirate per se but yeah
same deal
@KitRedgrave @KS i wanna be city-adjacent
@bea @KitRedgrave I like city life
Just not the current city I reside in
Save me from the constant 100~110 heat please
@KS @bea i'm on DO right now, on a $20/mo system backing up to S3 (wal-e and paperclip storage backend)
hoping i can economize Mastodon down to a 512mb container with webpack/other builds done on-demand on a short-lived server
then i'm planning on running a bunch of other containers too for all my other stuff. want to get a ci/cd pipeline going and self-host all the things and it seems like total cost of ownership would be less on google cloud than wrangling DO into it
