"I like the inconsistency and animations so go away, closed PR"

When there's something new users can point to in literally seconds that screams unprofessional, it's harder to convince them to stay. Just saying.

And using the fact that there are other apps as an excuse for letting your UI be inconsistent on purpose is just ... stupid.

Sorry, a little frustrated right now.

@KS Okay, I'm sorry for dismissing your feelings with eyerolling (now deleted). It was unprofessional to do.

Getting a PR rejected is not a nice feeling. But Mastodon has a generally high rate of PR merges, so it's not out of reach. Just not visual changes.

@Gargron I appreciate the apology, but I don't think you quite get why I'm upset; it's more based on content than simple rejection.

We can pretty easily agree that there are subjective aspects to design (round vs. square avatars), but maintaining a consistent design throughout the application isn't really subjective. Inconsistency is going to be treated as unprofessional to new users peering in, which negatively affects their chances of joining or staying.

@Gargron That's really the main issue here; any given Mastodon instance has a UI that isn't consistent with itself in what is literally the biggest, most recognizable section to the end user. All I was trying to do was fix this up so that each instance would have one consistent design -- whether that be squares or circles, I don't care -- thus letting that instance's users design and work around it.
