okay, but now i seriously wonder: was there some industry rule in arcade games that required games show a "game over" screen upon reaching the ending (in games that had one and didn't loop)?

or was it just a helpful recommendation that everyone did so arcade owners didn't get complaints from players who were like "hey, so i just beat m.bison on the street fighter 2 machine, and the game now asks for another coin to keep playing as if i lost! what gives?"

@rnd It's certainly commonplace, probably as a way to say to the player "hey, leave the cabinet now", but it's definitely not universal; off the top of my head I know the later Metal Slug games all omit it, and there's definitely others too
