did the zelda 1 hints make any more sense in the original japanese?

@Felthry most hints are direct translations IIRC

@KS it feels like they're poor translations or rely on some context that's missing in english though

i mean, "10th enemy has the bomb" is leaving out a ton of information about what on earth it's talking about, even if we all know what it means now

Kaito / Katie Sinclaire @KS

@Felthry funny enough, that hint does not exist in the FDS version, that line references the skeleton key instead

so there's no real mistranslation because there's no translation in the first place, it's just a really bad hint

The author of the Legends of Localization pages also wrote a whole book on it - it's a pretty fascinating tour of everything they did (also, the Fangamer price is far more reasonable than what Amazon is charging):

@dodec @KS seriously though someone linked the legends of localization website earlier in this same context and now i'm seriously considering buying both of the legends of localization books >.>

Go for it. They're great resources, and fascinating to read. And if you want to see the author and his wife do live translation stuff, they used to stream on Twitch - they haven't in a long time, but there's a whole archive of videos here:
