I feel like I dodge a lot of the fediverse's drama, or at least don't have to deal with it head-on, by being single-user. And that's a good thing.

@zycorax That's what I mean ... I don't really need or want to reach out to absolutely everyone. It's saved me from a lot of drama.

@devurandom It doesn't happen automatically, but given enough time it will happen simply due to boosting.

@devurandom Single-user instances don't get much of a federated timeline, since it's almost identical to your own home timeline. Similarly, nobody really knows of your existence until you put your feet in the water first and follow others to make the first connection.

I see a lot of people say that single-user is Mastodon on hard mode and ... I'm not so sure that's the case after all.

Sure, having to set up everything yourself is a pain, but ... the other reason I see cited a lot, "outreach", doesn't really feel like that much of a downside anymore.

@loke I'm not talking about unicode variant letters, though; I'm talking about custom emoji that just consist of a single letter (e.g.: the hackertype letters, wide letters, etc).

Those don't have unicode code points, just shortcodes (which Mastodon replaces with an image).

Without support for custom emoji, those posts just turn into a bunch of unreadable :hacker_g:​:hacker_a:​:hacker_r:​:hacker_b:​:hacker_a:​:hacker_g:​:hacker_e:, and I can't imagine it's any better for screen readers

I was supposed to get a cleaning at the dentist, got a tooth pulled instead

And then scraped up a bit tripping at the entrance to Walgreens to drop off the prescriptions I was given

I'm on really heavy painkillers and still hurting a tad bit nevertheless
