@HazakuraEtsu Mastodon's increasingly fork-hostile nature is what started it, but the falling-out (which started some time before things started coming out into the open) was what put the final nail into the coffin

I think part of the reason it stuck in my mind so well was that it's such a rare sound to hear in the context of that game, most teams did not screw up anywhere near badly enough to get to that point

So hearing it at all meant things had flown entirely off the rails

To me, there's very few game show sound effects that have wedged themselves as deep into my mind as Greed's "un-suspenseful miss" sound: getting a question wrong much earlier than anticipated, either by missing one of the early gimme questions or getting multiple wrong answers on the "4 of x" format questions

It's difficult for me to even describe it, it's kind of like a record-scratch? But it's sure been stuck in my mind for 23 years
