No, I'm not removing this thread, by the way; even if my initial take is wrong, the thread has been helpful to myself and others to learn things we didn't know, and erasing it would be a disservice to that.

granted I wasn't as aware of _every_ connotation of that statue so I'll drop the subject and admit I was wrong about that

@Elizafox This is a bit of a side point but I was talking about this exact thing to Kas almost exactly a year ago

and they mentioned that the statue's primary use now is professors using it to contextualize the war and NC's place in it at that time

@Elizafox TBH I feel a lot different feelings here than, say, honoring <pick any Confederate general here> because these are common people, dragged into a mess of a war by others?
